Always loved lighthouses

Jessica Fortman, 28 of Defiance wanted to take a trip with her family to Marblehead to see a lighthouse for the first time and then spend a few days at Put-N-Bay.

The Angel Foundation arranged a trip for her and her family to finally see in person what she had only seen before in pictures. The family also enjoyed a ride on the Jet Express to Put-N-Bay, where they explored a butterfly house, visiting Heineman's Winery, touring the caves, swimming, eating and sight-seeing. Jessica and her hospice social worker created a memory box for each of Jessica's children to remember the trip.

Picture perfect

Patricia Nance of Latty wanted all of her five children together as she knew her time was getting closer.

Her daughter, Emma and grandson, Nathan, came to The Angel Foundation with her request of an airline ticket to bring Patricia's daughter, April, home from Texas.

The day that April came home was a most exciting day for Patricia because four years had past since she had last seen her. During the week that the family was together, The Angel Foundation made arrangements for family portraits to be taken. Denise from Shutterbugg in Van Wert donated everything from the sitting fee to many pictures for the family.

The highlight of Patricia's week was her birthday--the family took her to Red Lobster, her favorite place. Patricia spent more than 30 years as a nurse, providing loving care to her patients.

Making family memories

Larry Southward, 47 of Springfield had a goal "to make a memory" for his family, and he asked his social worker to assist him in making it a reality.

Larry's plan was to take his wife and children, Luke and Amber, to Disney World. But, his health starting to deterioate and he was admitted to a hospice program. It was decided that Larry had become too weak to make the trip to Florida and something closer to home would be more appropriate.

Arrangements were made for the family to go to Howl-O-Fest at Kings Island and Great Wolf Lodge Water Park in Cincinnati. Luke and Amber had a great time swimming and Larry was able to relax and watch his kids beam with joy.

The next day they went to Kings Island with the kids dressed up for Howl-O-Fest and enjoyed painting pumpkins.

Couple enjoys trip to Tennessee

Christy Cline of West Portsmouth initially wanted to take a family vacation with her husband, grown children and grandchildren...14 in all!

Her first desire was to go to Myrtle Beach. However, the financial situations of everyone involved made that impossible. Eventually, she decided that a trip to Tennessee with her husband would be nice because they had not been able to take a trip together for many years.

Her husband, Hershel had not wavered in his love and devotion to her throughout her difficult journey with stage-four breast cancer. Arrangements were made for the couple to stay in Pigeon Forge. During the week there, they visited the Dixie Stampede, Dollywood and saw some shows.

When they returned, Christy stated, "just to get away from it all was a real blessing. Seeing the beautiful hills--with all of the fall colors--everything was wonderful, thank you again."
